About the Founders & Methodological Framework
Ecological Lineage & Expertise
Our practice emerges from two decades of cross-disciplinary research in environmental psychology, biomimicry, and contemplative neuroscience. Principal architect Dr. Lena Voss holds a PhD in Biophilic Design from the University of Cambridge, with a thesis on fractal coherence in vernacular architecture. Co-founder Tomás Rivera is a certified Forest Therapy Guide and former lead designer at the Biomimicry Institute, specializing in mycelial structural systems and bio-acoustic optimization.
Methodology: From Enactive Cognition to Spatial Affordances
We employ an enactive cognition framework that treats architectural spaces as co-creators of mindful states. Our design protocols include pre- and post-occupancy evaluations using wearable electrodermal activity sensors, salivary cortisol sampling, and standardized mindfulness questionnaires (MAAS, FFMQ). We champion the concept of ‘sensory serendipity’—creating micro-environments that afford unexpected interactions with natural elements, thereby fostering decentralized attention and awe experiences.
Ethical Stance & Regenerative Justice
We are committed to regenerative justice, ensuring all material sourcing supports indigenous land stewardship. Our projects follow the Living Building Challenge and incorporate cultural keystone species. We publish open-access neuroarchitectural data to democratize biophilic design knowledge.
Support Center
What is biophilic design?
Biophilic design connects occupants with nature through direct or indirect natural elements, enhancing well-being and productivity.
How long does a typical project take?
Small spaces take 4-6 weeks, while full home transformations range from 3-6 months.
Do you use sustainable materials?
Absolutely. We prioritize reclaimed, recycled, and certified sustainable materials to minimize environmental impact.
Can I incorporate existing furniture?
Yes, we integrate your cherished pieces seamlessly into the new design.
